I really enjoy the way you painted the raven and the pistol. They are definitely good highlights! You do a phenomenal job on the armor, as always, and I love the simple icon hinted in the background. Well done!
Thanks its photoshop, been slowly getting more familiar with it. tried painter but it sort of threw me as to how to use it effectively. Open canvas was software i found quite useful too...and it was free lol
Thank you for answering so fast! I tried used Painter in the past too, but I didn't get used to it. I'm feeling a bit odd with photoshop since I got used to working with Sai, but I think there's stuff photoshop could complement me with (even I don't know yet wich will that be) Oh Opencanvas was the first software I tried!! Very neat!!
lol, just checked my messages for a break from painting. just play with the software, make bad images (and don't worry about them being bad..that's very important lol) and you'll learn what you can and can't do. It's very good for simulating lighting effects that might not be instinctive to just paint in with colour, so you have room to learn.
Some nice touches. The raven is excellent, and you've got all the genotypical traits covered. I like the finger resting alongside the plasma pistol - very military, and one definitely doesn't want to shoot one of those things accidentally.
I think his feet are too small and blobby around the ankles. The earth disruption around his feet and knee doesn't really work - to have that sort of even disruption he would have had to have ground his contact points into the dirt, which seems weird. His anatomy is also a bit too human - he needs to be much broader at the shoulder and more massive overall.
Good luck with your application, though. And if you're looking for freelance work in this area, do contact Fantasy Flight Games, too. They are a good employer of freelancers to illustrate their range of games, including the 40k and WFB licences, and they have a good record for spotting an encouraging talent, which you clearly have.
I've found that I struggle the most with the shoulder plates, and in cases like Njal's, the librarian terminator armour. The rest in't a struggle, and mainly to get the dimensions and proportions to match so that the marine looks like it should be the way it is.
those pauldrons are an awkward shape...i sometimes try and visualise a cube shape. (its very obvious in my drawings when i don't lol). so try drawing a cube in perspective where the shoulder pad should be, then draw the semi circle shapes inside that cube/oblong. it takes a little practice but you'll get the hang of it.
